Many of you have asked, so here it is (a work in progress!)
While it sounds cheesy, your presence is a present, and we are excited to celebrate with you all. We are incredibly lucky to have built a life together these last 11+ years, and we do not need a lot of "stuff," but we have put together some items that would be appreciated. We are also starting a "honeymoon fund" as we are keen on collecting experiences instead of things. Details below!
THE STUFF: https://www.theknot.com/amandapenningtonandnathanboris/registry
THE HONEYMOON: We are planning a trip involving running "hut to hut" in the Alps, staying at centuries-old alpine lodges and traversing some of the most iconic trails in Europe. If you'd like to contribute to things like flights, planning logistics, booking stays, meals to fuel our bodies, and supplies, you can do so at the links below. We chose to include links direct to us versus "honeymoon funds" via various wedding websites, as they all charge a fee that is passed along to either you or us!
FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 11 - WELCOME TO MAMMOTH!
Welcome to Mammoth Party (optional!)
1pm - 3pm Pokonobe Lodge and Marina, Lake Mary Road
Google Map link: https://maps.app.goo.gl/dYMSYkyzdknzGnZV6
Children/Grandparents/Nannies welcomed. Come say hi and chit chat with everyone to get the weekend started! Games, snacks and bevs provided. Open house style, come when you like and stay as long as you'd like. The marina has boat and paddleboard rentals for some fun on the lake.
Easy parking right at the marina, but the free Lakes Basin trolley also stops right near here, and the bike path goes right to it! Pro tip: the Lakes Basin trolley can accommodate up to 14 bikes! Hitch a ride on the trolley and then enjoy a nice mostly downhill ride on your bike back to your lodging. (They can accommodate most bikes, but some massive e-bikes might not fit on the rack). This is also very near great starting/end points for a hike!
SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 12 - WEDDING DAY!
SUNDAY SEPTEMBER 13 - CHILL
Please enjoy more of what Mammoth Lakes has to offer. We will update this site with lots of recommendations on things to do!
While we love your children, our ceremony and reception will be adults-only, with the exception of our immediate family. If you need to bring your kiddo(s) for the weekend, and need assistance finding a babysitter, please let us know and we will do our best to help!
Kids are invited to our "welcome party" on Friday.
There are tons of homestays in the area, which you can search on AirBnb and VRBO. The town is small, so nothing is terribly far, and there is a free shuttle bus/trolley system within town that is great.
We've secured a discount off rooms at the following hotels for our guests (and will update if we get any additional deals!):
Other ideas:
Camping: lots of camping if you can secure a spot!
The only property we strongly suggest NOT booking is the Mammoth Mountain Inn, as it is quite far up the mountain, and would require a long, windy drive up/down a mountain road to get to any wedding festivities.
We have limited parking at the venue, and encourage people either to carpool or if you're able to, take the free trolley/shuttle. The nearest stop to the venue is a 4-5 minute walk on a flat road.
Summer shuttle map can be found here: https://www.estransit.com/summer-routes (depending upon the direction you're coming from, you'll be stopping at #40 or #106. You can also ask the driver when you get on to confirm you're on the right bus to head to Sierra Meadows Ranch, they are very helpful and will make sure you get there!)
There is no Uber/Lyft in town. There is a local taxi service. They charge a flat fee per person, and you can schedule pickups: https://mammothtaxi.com/ or call (760) 924-TAXI.
We highly encourage you use the shuttle system while you're in town! They even have bike racks to go to the Lakes Basin, and will get you all around town for free. Also most of the local shops that rent bikes also rent e-bikes!
If you have questions about what the best option is for you, contact Amanda!
"Mountain cocktail chic" is what we're calling it! Play with that to your heart's content. You'll be out in the great wide open with the mountains as your backdrop, and a natural dance floor under your feet. It will cool off in the evening (could be substantially, see average weather below), so please plan to bring a cozy jacket so you can party all night. We will also have wood and propane fire pits going and some blankets!
What kind of shoes should we wear?
Glad you asked! We'll be on uneven terrain/dirt/grass, so please leave your stilettos at home. We aren't judging you by your shoe choices, and you do you (just please wear shoes) ... But boots, chunky heels, flats, etc. will make your life easier and your ankles will thank you. Feel free to contact Amanda with any questions here!
As we get closer, we will update this with actual weather forecasts.
Typical daytime highs on September 12 can range from mid 60s to low 70s, and typical nighttime lows can range from the mid 30s to mid 40s. The weather swing from morning to afternoon can be large (so think chilly mornings but mild midday/afternoons typically with sunshine). You'll be in the mountains, so best to be prepared with layers and a jacket.
